Further Light in Masonry

Masons search for further light – a light that is a knowledge of our world and our place in it. Our Masonic light is obtained through introspection, study, and education. Through Masonic education, we develop the skills we need to take our current state – represented by the rough ashler – and transforming it into something better – represented by the smooth ashler. For Masons, this is the process of transforming good men into better men.

It is for each individual Mason to discover the secret of Masonry, by reflection upon its symbols and a wise consideration and analysis of what is said and done in the work. Masonry does not inculcate [impress upon the mind by frequent repetition] her truths. She states them, once and briefly; or hints them, perhaps, darkly; or interposes a cloud between them and eyes that would be dazzled by them. “Seek, and ye shall find,” knowledge and the truth.
